Five Alive

I should have written this post long ago. My little Zoe has turned 5. Her birthday is in May, but I am a little behind. Zoe is, ummm, a special girl. She is moody and sneaky and full of life. She always wants to know how everything works. She has always been able to roll herself into a little ball and lay next to you without you hardly knowing she was there. She is smart. She is funny. She is thin skinned. :) She is Zoe. I love this girl. Can't believe she's 5. I must also give a shout out to Shannon for making the cutest cupcakes and cake ever!

And a partridge in a pear tree.....

While reading about "The Robbie in Dallas Weekend", I was thinking about how much I love those laugh til you cry moments. In our family we have had many of those moments and even now I can lay in my bed reliving these moments and laugh out loud. Here are just a few of my all time favorite Hambly Family moments:

-The pantyhose over the face incident. So funny. (by the way, when one person does something in our family, everyone else has to do it to. You will have your name chanted until you do, so you might as well get it over with.)

-Grandma Irma doing the partridge in a pear tree and also Grandma Irma with the whoopie cushion and also Grandma Irma with the toilet paper. Damn, I sure miss her...so much good entertainment. We also have to thank her for ham roll ups in our lives.

-The family dinner band.....

-Dad and Uncle Steve telling stories that they can't get through because they are laughing so hard they can't talk.

-The Lord of the Dance christmas talent.

I know there are so many more....but, these stick out to me. Good times.
What are some of yours?

funny joke?

This morning while I was combing Kamdyn's hair she was complaining about being hot. Then, she busted out this joke:
Excuse me sun, you're going to have to be dismissed. You're fired. Get it? Fired?
Well, she thought it was funny anyway....actually, I thought it was a little funny too. Hee hee.

O What a Town

This semi-familiar face was our waiter at Wood Ranch BBQ at The Grove in Los Angeles last night. O-Town may not have lasted, but he was a damn good server. I was wishing Sharalyn and Shannon were with me....

So today I took the girls to McDonalds after school to get an ice cream cone. Actually, I took myself and they just happened to have to go with me. Anyway, while we were there, I noticed two kids sitting alone at a high table. There was a boy and a girl. He was probably 11 at most and she looked about 9. Zoe and Kamdyn both noticed that they were by themselves and that they didn't have a mommy with them. Even I kept looking around for their mom to come join them from the soda fountain or maybe she was getting napkins or something. I immediately felt so sad for them. I personally believe that all kids should have an adult to go home to after school.
After watching them for awhile, I was so touched by the way this brother took care of his sister. He was so sweet to her. They were eating and he asked her if she was done and made sure she didn't throw away her toy from her Happy Meal. I wouldn't have been surprised if he used his own money to buy their food. After they were done eating, he went in and played the video game thing and she played in the play area thing. After awhile they were done and they walked out the door and I watched as they walked down the street.
I really just wanted to pick them up and ask if they wanted to come to my house after school everyday. Then, I figured that would be pretty weird. It was weird anyway that I was dwelling so much on these kids.
As I sat I found myself thinking about their mother and judging her thinking how she could do that. Then I caught myself. I thought I am sure that there is not a night that she doesn't lay in bed wishing that she could be there for her kids after school. I am sure she knows what a great kid she has looking after her daughter everyday. I am positive that she is just doing the best she can with what life has given her. Just like me. I hope she has a great Mothers' Day.

3 generations of toes...

Saturday was such a nice day for me. My Mom and Grandma and I went to get pedicures and lunch. It's always an adventure taking grandma somewhere and this was no exception. The best part was watching her walk in the sandals they give you so you don't smudge your nail polish. Let's just say I don't think grandma ever has ever worn a pair of flip flops in her life.

After getting my eyebrows waxed, i felt a little beat up. She really got all the hair and some skin too. She is very thorough. I am still a little tender.

We then went to lunch at CPK. I haven't been there in awhile and it was so tasty. My mom and I shared the Tostada Pizza. Seriously, it is so good. I can't believe I have never had it before. Yummy...now I want to go back today.

After lunch we dropped grandma off and my mom and I spent the rest of the afternoon walking around the mall. It was so nice to spend time with my mom since she has been especially busy with work. I was gone from the house from 10:45 in the morning until 4:00 in the afternoon. And guess what? I didn't feel guilty for being away for one minute.

When I returned home, I was informed that we were going swimming at Shannons. After being verbally abused by Shannon on the phone, I decided that we better get over there. And, I am glad we did. We had a great time swimming, especially since it was 90 degrees. Seriously folks, this is April.

It was such a great day and my mom is awesome. While we were in the emergency room Friday night, Steve and I were talking about our friends and who we consider our best friends (besides eachother) and I have to say that my mom is my number one best friend. If I could choose to spend time with anyone on a day off, I would no doubt choose my mom.

p.s. the emergency room on Friday was actually pretty entertaining. Luckily my mom and dad had gone out to dinner and were still awake and could come over and stay with the kids while we went. By the way, thank you so much Cuillard boys for driving Steve home...anyhow, Steve was really ok and he was just going because the league told him he had to. So, all the other people sitting in the emergency were looking at us really weird because we were laughing and talking and we were only there 2 1/2 hours. Everyone else had to wait much longer and we were in and out. It took longer to get the paper work than for the Dr. to assess the situation. I told Steve that he could just ask to go out with me instead of getting hit in the head so we could have a nice evening together in the emergency room.
